The first steps


If your practice has a vacancy or is likely to have a vacancy in the near future, Health Recruitment PLUS (HR+) can provide you with a full recruitment service. This will include developing a marketing strategy, identifying suitable candidates, discussing supervision requirements, assisting with registration of new candidates and providing support for new doctors on arrival and with post arrival settlement. HR+ recruitment services are provided free of charge to practices across Tasmania - except in RA2 locations where a placement fee for service will apply. Initial recruitment consultation and support services are provided on a complimentary basis. Australian graduates

If you are an Australian graduate, the choices are simple. If you are a vocationally recognised GP, you are able to practice anywhere of your choosing. Non-vocationally recognised Australian graduates

Non-vocationally recognised Australian graduates may be eligible to work as GPs on the Rural Locum Relief Program. Doctors trained outside Australia

Doctors trained outside Australia will need to work in parts of the country which the Federal Government has identified as having insufficient numbers of GPs. These areas are known as Districts of Workforce Shortage (DWS). There are a number of pathways to registration, however the common factors in each of these pathways are:

  1. You must be eligible to hold a relevant working visa for immigration purposes
  2. You must be eligible for registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Registering Authority (AHPRA)
  3. You must be eligible to access Medicare
  4. You need to have an offer of employment
  5. You must have a minimum amount of GP experience
